Introductory Philosophical Community of Inquiry Workshop – Day 2
This introductory course presupposes no formal training in philosophy or experience in teaching philosophy in schools. Teachers and pre-service teachers are invited to learn about the engaging community of inquiry pedagogy. The course is structured around 2 days of intensive training with an optional 3rd day for those wishing to achieve FAPSA certification. Participants will experience community of inquiry teaching practices first hand, allowing them, in turn, to facilitate communities of inquiry in their own classrooms. All participants will also have access to a comprehensive collection of teaching materials via the Google Classroom course site.
The Sessions are run over 2 consecutive Saturdays, October 31st and November 7th, 2026.
The optional 3rd day is of your choosing in the following months. The lead instructor will come and observe you in your own school context and you will be required to submit planning documents for assessment.
This course meets the requirements of the Federation of Australasian Philosophy in Schools Associations (FAPSA) for Philosophical Community of Inquiry Courses.
Lead Instructor: Lorelei Siegloff, BA(hons) BVA(hons) M.Teach
Lorelei’s training is in archaeology and the visual arts. She came later to education and has since specialised in Philosophy for Children. She has a long history working in Humanities and Social Sciences research and as a tertiary educator. She currently teaches in the Bachelor and Master of Teaching programmes at Charles Sturt University, and her main interest is in bringing philosophical theory into effective practice with educators. Lorelei is the creator and lead facilitator for both the SA Middle School Community of Inquiry (CoI) Day, held in partnership with the Art Gallery of South Australia and also the Senior School Community of Inquiry Day held in partnership with the Centre of Democracy, SA. She is a Community of Inquiry Education Consultant who has worked with the Gifted and Talented Association of SA to deliver CoI for some years, as well as working with schools to assist in training their students and teachers in CoI skills. She has served SAPEA and FAPSA as a Chair and executive member for some years.
